Telefonando ad aziende inglesi o americane può anche capitare di sentire il messaggio registrato di una segreteria computerizzata che ci invita a premere tasti diversi per metterci in comunicazione con l'ufficio corrispondente.

Per esempio:

"Non puoi solo guardare il mondo cambiare intorno a te. È tempo di scegliere una parte e combattere per ciò in cui credi," ho continuato, cercando di incoraggiarlo a fare una scelta.

Il mio amico si è mosso in modo scomodo, chiaramente diviso tra opinioni contrastanti. Potevo vedere la lotta nei suoi occhi, ma sapevo che aveva bisogno di prendere una decisione presto. Il mondo andava avanti con o senza di lui, e non poteva restare con un piede in due scarpe per sempre.

Dopo qualche momento di contemplazione, il mio amico ha finalmente parlato. "Hai ragione. Devo prendere una posizione e far sentire la mia voce. Non posso solo stare a guardare."
