Essere pazzi -> He's off his rocker

 Ita

Eng

I can't believe you're suggesting we jump off this cliff into the water below. You must be off your rocker if you think that's a good idea. It's incredibly dangerous and we could seriously injure ourselves. Let's come up with a safer plan instead.

Non riuscire a prendere una decisione -> He's sitting on the fence

 Ita

Eng

My friend, you can't sit on the fence any longer - you have to decide whose side you're on." I said sternly to my indecisive companion. We had been discussing the current political climate for hours, but they remained hesitant to take a stance.

"You can't just sit back and watch the world change around you. It's time to pick a side and fight for what you believe in," I continued, trying to encourage them to make a choice.

My friend shifted uncomfortably, clearly torn between conflicting views. I could see the struggle in their eyes, but I knew that they needed to make a decision soon. The world was moving forward with or without them, and they couldn't stay on the fence forever.

After a few more moments of contemplation, my friend finally spoke up. "You're right. I need to take a stand and make my voice heard. I can't just sit on the sidelines anymore."

I smiled in relief, glad that my friend had finally made a decision. We continued our conversation, now with a newfound sense of purpose and determination. It was a small step, but it was an important one. After all, even the smallest actions can have a significant impact on the world around us.

Nessuna possibilità -> A snowball's chance in hell

 Ita

Eng

When faced with overwhelming odds, it's natural to feel discouraged and wonder if success is even possible. This is when the phrase "a snowball's chance in hell" comes to mind - a stark reminder of just how difficult the situation may be. But even when the odds seem insurmountable, it's important to remember that every success story began with a challenge. The road to success is seldom easy, and obstacles are a natural part of the journey. While it's true that some situations may seem nearly impossible to overcome, the only way to truly fail is to give up entirely. So the next time you hear the phrase "a snowball's chance in hell," take it as a challenge to defy the odds and prove that success is always possible, no matter how unlikely it may seem.

Dare la colpa agli altri per un fallimento -> It is a poor workman who blames his tools

 Ita

Eng

When faced with a mistake or a subpar result, it is easy to blame external factors for our shortcomings. However, this mentality is counterproductive and unhelpful. As the saying goes, "it is a poor workman who blames his tools." In other words, a skilled worker knows that the quality of their work is not solely dependent on the tools they use, but also on their own knowledge and expertise. By taking responsibility for their mistakes and looking for ways to improve their skills, a skilled worker is able to produce high-quality work and achieve better results. Therefore, it is important to focus on personal accountability and the development of our skills, rather than making excuses or blaming external factors for our shortcomings.

E' sempre più buio prima dell'alba -> It is always darkest before the dawn

 Ita

Eng

The state of the economy is currently in a state of disarray, with significant problems that need to be addressed. Although there is a strong desire for immediate improvement, it's essential to remember that "it is always darkest before the dawn". This is because the road to recovery can be challenging and require difficult decisions and actions that may have short-term negative consequences. However, by persevering through the difficulties and making necessary sacrifices, it's possible to create a foundation for a more stable and prosperous economy in the future.

La responsabilità è di entrambe le persone coinvolte -> It takes two to tango.

 Ita

Eng

During our meeting, my colleague seemed to be on edge and ready to argue about a particular issue. While I understand her perspective, I knew that engaging in an argument would not be productive for either of us. As the saying goes, 'it takes two to tango,' and I didn't want to escalate the situation. Instead, I calmly explained my position and listened to her concerns. Although she may have wanted to argue, I chose not to stoop to her level and maintained a professional demeanor throughout our conversation. By doing so, we were able to reach a mutually agreeable solution and move forward with our work.

Piove sul bagnato -> When it rains it pours

 Ita

Eng

The team suffered a double setback as not only did they lose the game, but also three of their best players were injured. It seems that in this case, bad luck has come in threes, as the saying goes - "when it rains, it pours." This unfortunate turn of events may have a significant impact on the team's future performance, as they will have to work harder to compensate for the loss of their key players. The injuries may also take a toll on the morale of the team, making it even more challenging for them to bounce back from the loss. All in all, this is a difficult situation for the team, and they will need to regroup and work together to overcome these obstacles.

Essere stupidi -> He's not playing with a full deck

Ita

Eng

If you were caught talking about her as the short woman who's "not playing with a full deck," it was highly likely that you would be out of a job the next day. Your chances of remaining employed were dim if news of your disrespectful remarks about her reached her ears. She was known to take offense at derogatory comments made about her and was not afraid to take action. Her reputation as a no-nonsense individual preceded her, and those who dared to cross her paid the price. Therefore, it was crucial to be mindful of what you said in her presence and avoid making any derogatory comments

Con la gentilezza si ottiene di più -> You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar

 Ita

Eng

It's important to be aware of how our behavior can affect others. If people are leaving or avoiding us, it might be worth considering how we treat them. Maybe they wouldn't leave if we didn't scream at them every time something went wrong. Instead, we can try being more patient and understanding. After all, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. A little kindness can go a long way in building positive relationships and making people feel valued.

Seguire la moda / la corrente -> Jump on the bandwagon

 Ita

Eng

After a few politicians successfully won elections by making promises to reduce taxes, the majority of the remaining politicians quickly followed suit. They realized that making similar promises could also be a winning strategy for them, so they joined the trend. The politicians who joined the bandwagon saw an opportunity to appeal to voters by offering the same promise of lower taxes, even if they may not have originally believed in it. In this way, the promise of cutting taxes became a popular and widespread platform for politicians seeking office. As a result, the idea of reducing taxes became a mainstay in political discourse and many candidates sought to gain voters' support by making similar promises. In this manner, the bandwagon effect took hold, with politicians trying to appeal to voters by offering the same popular promise of lower taxes.

Chi ben comincia è a metà dell'opera -> Well begun is half done

 Ita

Eng

I'm afraid that I won't be able to complete the writing of this report. My fear is overwhelming and it feels like I'll never reach the end.

However, Jane reassures me with a positive remark. "You've already written a great introduction. Remember, well begun is half done." Jane's words are a source of encouragement and remind me that I have already made progress in my task. It is important to recognize and acknowledge the progress I have made, rather than focusing solely on the challenges that lie ahead. Jane's encouragement helps me to shift my perspective and to focus on what I have accomplished so far, rather than what I have yet to do. By doing so, I feel more motivated and confident in my ability to complete the report.

So let us be thorough and relentless, leaving no stone unturned on our path to success.

Eng

Remembering how to ride a bicycle is like second nature, once you've learned it you never forget. Just like riding a bike, certain skills and memories stay with us forever, ingrained in our beings. And just like hopping on a bicycle after a long break, picking up where we left off comes back to us with ease. The simplicity and joy of riding a bike is a reminder that some things are just timeless, never losing their appeal no matter the passage of time.

Eng

John had always been a dog lover and had never been bitten before. However, one day while out for a walk, he was bitten by a stray dog. The experience was traumatic for him and left him with a deep fear of all dogs. He couldn't understand why this had happened to him and it made him very cautious around any dog. He would often say "once bitten, twice shy" to express his newfound caution and to remind himself to always be careful around dogs.
